Our Story

Nick and I officially met in the summer of 2001 where we met up with mutual friends in Ames for an evening out (we met twice on previous occasions but were never officially introduced). I was in my senior year at Iowa State and Nick had graduated and was working at Helena in Ankeny.

Nick was sweet from the beginning and we had fun with the people we were with that night. Nick showed up at my door about a week later to ask me on a date. We ended up going out to dinner with friends that very night and then we had our first date later that week. On our first date, we went to Wallaby's in Ames and then hit the movie theatre at the wrong time so we went back to my place and watched 'Meet the Parents'. Nick then asked me to accompany him to a wedding the following weekend and I accepted. I visited Wall Lake for the first time and met Nick's family and saw where he was from. We have been dating ever since - over five years!

Nick and I have been through a lot of changes since 2001! Nick left his job in Ankeny in the fall of 2003 to move home and farm with his family. This converted our relationship to a long distance one, but we have seen each other almost every weekend since that time. Nick did some part time work with the NRCS office in Denison along side of his farm work. I worked at an IT company called Winning Solutions in Ames for a year after graduation, and then started with the National Pork Board in Clive, Iowa in the spring of 2003. I moved down to West Des Moines in the summer of 2003, and then bought a house in the summer of 2004. Nick's brother Chris worked on the house and converted it from it's horrible condition to a beautiful house that I just love living in. I moved there in February of 2005 and have lived there since. In the fall of 2005, Nick purchased an acreage in Vail, Iowa, which we are currently working on and will live in when we return from our honeymoon.

I forgot one part of our timeline...our engagement. Nick surprised me at my parent's house on Christmas day, 2005. My parents were gone (on purpose) and Nick was all dressed up and came in and got on one knee. He actually proposed in the same house, in the same room, that my parents got engaged 31 years before. We then spent some time talking and then went in to my grandparent's house and met up with my parents there. It was a really fun night and it was so great to have my family be a part of it.

That's it...the beginning of our story. I am sure there are many more things to come and we can't wait!
